"I prefer the saddle to the streetcar and star-sprinkled sky to a roof,
the obscure and difficult trail, leading into the unknown, to any paved highway,
and the deep peace of the wild to the discontent bred by cities."
-Everett Ruess

Cycling Silk would still be in the daydream stage were it not for the time, energy, and incredible generosity of too many people to list. But for starters, we want to send out huge thanks to: the Morehead Foundation and our other sponsors, for giving us the chance to pull this expedition off; Jesse Lefkowitz, for his fabulous pro bono website designing; Brian Burnham, for taking Kate on as an apprentice in all things cycling and filmmaking; Pablo Durana, for proving that a beginner on a bike isn't an impossible equation; Bill Isherwood, for his sage travel advice and for offering the original spark of inspiration out on the icefield; and above all, our parents, for raising us in the wilds of Ontario, Manitoba, and New York City with a passion for exploring the wilds beyond.

"We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again -- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more."
-Pico Iyer
